I have lived and worked on the St Helier estate for over 52 years and volunteered for over 30 years, being chair of the Circle Residents Association, Chair of Sutton Federation for Tenants and Residents Association for 10 years. One of my roles as a councillor was the lead councillor against Domestic Abuse. I spoke at meetings, conferences and at full council meetings. Also became the Patron of Sutton Women’s Centre. In 2017 I had the honour of becoming the Mayor, of the London Borough of Sutton.

I have left the best for last,16 years ago myself and my colleague Margaret Thomas started the St Helier Festival which has grown and grown. We have moved forward, and I am very proud to say we have now formed, St Helier Charitable Foundation. We will continue to work with our community across the borough in any way that we can. We are all stronger together.

I have lived in the London Borough of Sutton all my life, including for a few years on the St Helier Estate.

In 2008 I became Manager of Middleton Circle Library and oversaw the building of the new Circle library. When it opened we worked to create a community hub, this included running many different community activities such as job clubs, over 60’s lunch club, knitting group, local history, new mothers’ group and we even had a group that hosted lunch for those on their own on Christmas Day.

As I have a background in Heritage, I have also run many projects based around the local history of Carshalton and Wallington. This included the St Helier reminiscence project and Men of the Wrythe WW1 project.

I helped found the St Helier Festival and have continued to be involved with it ever since. As the St Helier Charitable Foundation, I hope we will be able to do more to help and improve the lives of residents in this area.

I have lived on the St Helier Estate for most of my life. When I retired 10 years ago I was looking to find something to do in the community. I discovered the St Helier Festival and joined the committee. I have been the Chair for about 6 years. I also sit as a community rep. on the council’s local committee.

I also attend a local church which works well with the festival and community.
